A companion book written and illustrated by Julia Fry, Jane In Winter has just been published. This book follows Jane Austen through successive winters of her life from the age of seven to her last Christmas at forty-one. Her letters and the recollections of other family members are used to piece together a chronicle of her personal life and her development as a writer.
Chapters cover family theatricals, first attachments, the loss of her childhood home to removal to Bath, bereavement and writer's block, family relationships and domestic obligations. The book celebrates Jane Austen's hard-won eventual fulfillment in her mid-thirties once her writing is able to flourish on her return to rural Hampshire.
